Dr. Steven Weiland
This was my first foray into graduate school. What I appreciated most about this course was its acknowledgment of me as an adult learner. As a completely self-directed course, I was able to establish my priorities and timing and have a high level of autonomy in my learning. Additionally, receiving an overview of educational pedagogy and history primed me for future classes.
Summer 2022
Dr. Leslie Gonzalez
This course was valuable in demonstrating various leadership approaches and lenses through which to see a classroom or a school. I left this course with a refined sense of what it looks like to build an inclusive and critical learning environment.
Summer 2022
Reuven Margrett
This course gave me a mind for understanding how to structure curriculum. Beyond that, it provided a foundation for establishing educational values and goals at a large scale to influence the curriculum in a desirable direction.
Fall 2022
Dr. David Wong
This course has given me tools to think critically about student motivation. In any given classroom, students will bring a wide array of motivation for engaging (or not engaging) in learning. As an educator, it is critical to consider the breadth of motivating factors in designing a learning experience and in addressing concerns that arise.
Fall 2022
Dr. Kenya Messer
This course was a journey in breaking down how cultural norms enter education and the importance of working to make classrooms more inclusive and socially just than the cultural norms allow. Multicultural education bucks against the status quo of white supremacy, patriarchy, and classism to make space for the students in the classroom and a wealth of realities experienced by people around the world.

Dr. Colin Gallagher
I have grouped these courses together, because taking them in conjunction reinforced similar lessons around educational technology. These courses gave me experience in looking critically at emerging technologies to determine the impact they could make on a learning experience. I have walked from these classes understanding technology to be a valuable tool with important trade-offs.

This course was among my favorites. I got into education because I love the joy of childhood. Engaging with children’s literature provided an opportunity to tap into that joy. It also honed by ability to recognize the totality of factors at play in presenting someone with even a simple picture book. Storytelling is a complex art and it deserves to be looked at seriously.
Spring 2024
Lakya Goss, M. Ed.
This course provided the experience of teacher research. Educators are constantly working to solve problems, and often experimenting with different strategies to optimize the experiences of their students. Formalizing that process into research both assists the teacher in keeping track of their interventions, but also contributes to the ever-growing body of teacher research.
